Founded in 2004, the company origins began as operating under Aqua Drill Tech conducting water drilling operations. Fast forward 16 years we are a market leader, ISO certified mineral exploration, micro piling and geotechnical drilling company. Our African based operations support the continents goals of extraction of minerals by providing safe and highly-efficient drilling services.

We are a leader specifically in East and Central Africa, where we operate one of the largest and most advanced rig (diamond, RC, RAB) fleet and support services. Our focus on state-of-the-art engineering solutions and our expertise covers many drilling areas from high pressure and high temperature drilling to technical limited drilling and directional drilling. Our in-house engineering department modifies existing rigs, ensuring that our equipment delivers exactly what our customers need. The company is carrying out this type of work for some of the largest mining companies in the world.

Our 90% African born employees are what differentiates us from international competition. We invest in innovative training techniques and best in class equipment. We provide industry recognised training to ensure our people are always properly trained. This ensures all services are of the highest quality - and are safe.

DIAMOND CORE

Diamond core drilling (exploration diamond drilling) utilizes an annular diamond-impregnated drill bit attached to the end of hollow drill rods to cut a cylindrical core of solid rock. It is it is mainly used in the mining industry to probe the contents of known ore deposits and also potential sites.

ADT Africa provides core drilling in the following sizes:

  • PQ Ø 85.0 mm
  • PQ3 Ø 83.0 mm
  • HQ Ø 63.5 mm
  • HQ3 Ø 61.1 mm
  • NQ2 Ø 50.5 mm
  • NQ Ø 47.6 mm
  • BQ Ø 34.4 mm

REVERSE CIRCULATION (“RC”) & ROTARY AIR BLAST (“RAB”)

RC drilling is similar to air core drilling, in that the drill cuttings are returned to the surface inside the rods. The drilling mechanism is a pneumatic reciprocating piston known as a “hammer” driving a tungsten-steel drill bit. RC drilling ideally produces dry rock chips, as large air compressors dry the rock out ahead of the advancing drill bit. RC is more expensive than RAB and Air core drilling but less expensive than Diamond Core drilling.

AIR CORE

Air core drilling is a superior first pass drilling technique as, opposed to RAB, the sample contamination is minimised through the dual tube system.

BLAST HOLE

Blast hole drilling is a technique used in mining whereby a hole is drilled into the surface of the rock, for the purposes of packing it with explosives and detonation. The intention is to induce cracks in the inner geology of the surrounding rock, in order to facilitate further drilling and associated mining activity.

GRADE CONTROL

Grade control drilling’s main purpose is to better define the ore grades within the mine and refine the information obtained and inferred from the resource block model of the mine.

GEOTECHNICAL

As part of the construction process, geotechnical drilling is a type drilling that is mainly for structures such as buildings, oil rigs/development, roads, ports and infrastructure or as part of the investigation process carried out on site prior to construction.

The geotechnical expertise at ADT Africa allows engineering design teams to develop cost-effective and practical solutions for each project relating to groundwater, soil, or rock.

Collectively, our team has upwards of 17 years of experience in geotechnical engineering work and reporting.

Our goal is to increase safety, provide mobility and promote economic development while maintaining and respecting the environment.

GEONAILING & SLOPE STABILISATION

Geonailing and slope stabilisation is a method whereby slopes or excavations are stabilised by reinforcing the soil in-situ with closely spaced tensile inclusions. In the majority of cases these inclusions are fully bonded high yield steel bars which are introduced into the soil mass to produce a zone of reinforced ground. Correlation needs to be drawn between safety, production and quality in order to produce a product as per project specifications.
